Description

Description
Students at Grandview Elementary will be participating in the award-winning SAE International A World in Motion® (AWIM®) program’s Straw Rocket Challenge. This is a hands-on, minds-on activity where students design and build Straw Rockets.
With dates ranging in April and May, we will connect you with the contacts necessary to solidify volunteer details.

Additional information will be released upon submitting your application:
Grandview Elementary School
April 27 and 30, 2026 or May 5 and 7, 2026 at 2:10 PM for 30-45 minute sessions.
Doing both sessions in a week is preferred but not required.

As a volunteer, you will be responsible for mentoring and overseeing students as they navigate the AWIM Challenge. You will build real-world connections to concepts and skills that students are learning and serve as a role model for students by sharing your experiences. As such, you will have the chance to influence and enhance the ways in which our youth are prepared to meet the challenges of the future. For a short-term, flexible time commitment, you can make learning fun, help students discover the exciting application of science and math principles, and share information about rewarding careers in your chosen profession.

Starting with the youngest learners, from preschool through 12th grade, AWIM combines practical, experiential learning with mentorship from industry volunteers and ongoing training and support for educators to advance equitable access to STEM.
